March 28, 2018- The EDC Business and Community Partners is proud to announce that 221 students, parents, educators, and community leaders attended the organization’s first annual St. Charles County STEM Conference held March 22, 2018. The event combined the organization’s traditional STEM breakfast, which recognizes the top STEM senior at 18 of the county’s high schools, with innovative panel discussions designed to provide students with information on STEM career paths.

The event began with a keynote address from Arch Grants Executive Director Emily Lohse-Busch on the role STEM skills play in successfully launching a startup and concluded with one panel on obtaining a debt-free STEM education and another on how students can position themselves for success in STEM fields after their college graduation. In between the keynote and panel discussions the area’s outstanding STEM students were recognized by EDC Partners Education Committee chair Randy Schilling and EDC President and CEO, Greg Prestemon.

“We are very proud of how successful this event was,” said Prestemon. “While it is often difficult for students to make it to the event on a school day, the response was overwhelming. Young people are clearly looking for more information about STEM education and career paths. It is also incredibly inspiring to see the work these students are already doing to make their communities and their world a better place.”

The St. Charles County STEM Conference will become an annual event. For more information on future STEM events, as well as other EDC events focusing on education, economic development, and entrepreneurship, please visit http://edcscc.com/events/.
